Electricity Fundamentals

This half day course will involve theory, troubleshooting electrical circuits, and identifying components found on today’s oil and HVAC equipment. We will begin with basic electrical practices and move on to testing with wiring boards. Technicians will be instructed on the use of meters to test electrical circuits and equipment. Discussions will include series and parallel circuits, motor operation, component testing and electrical theory.

This is a basic class for technicians learning or having problems with electrical issues. This is a hands-on class; technicians are encouraged to bring their own meters to the class.

Our Instructor: Kurt Massa has decades of HVAC industry experience including positions as an HVAC technician, manager, and instructor. Kurt holds a NORA Gold Certification, is a certified NATE instructor, and has taught various HVACR courses at Delaware County Community College. This combination of field experience as well as years of sharing his knowledge as an educator makes Kurt a great resource for the 2017 PPA technical program.

Basic Electrical Workshop will cover:

  • Basic electrical principles and circuitry
  • How to use voltmeters, ammeters, and ohmmeters
  • Testing electric components
