PPA Webinar Series: Managing Fuels in Cold Temperatures- Developing a Prevent Defense Protocol for Diesel and Heating Oil

  • October 2, 2018
    9:00 am - 10:00 am

I think we can all remember the 2018 New Year’s Cold Snap that produced ambient outside temperatures as low as 2F to 4F and regional fuels with cloud points ranging from 9F to 15F. During this period, a waxy, white grease-like substance caused significant operational issues for distributors and end users of diesel fuel.

Both the New England and Mid-Atlantic regions were affected by this waxy, white grease-like substance that would form and suffocate fuel filters. When the filters were removed to room temperature, the grease-like substance would not melt.

Webinar will cover the following topics:

·       A little history – 2018 New Year’s Cold Snap

·       The Challenges

·       Understanding Diesel Fuel Operability

·       Cold Weather Challenges

·       Water, Entrained and Bottom Water

·       Paraffin Wax- Regionally available fuels

·       Blending Biodiesel in Cold Weather

·       Cold Flow Improvers vs Kerosene Blending

·       Establishing Your Prevent Defense

·       Wax Crystal Modifiers & Wax Anti-Settling Agent
