DEP Suspends Enforcement Of Stage II Controls In Southeast PA 

The PPA worked with industry stakeholders to mirror an action taken in Southwestern part of the state four years ago to suspend DEP enforcement of the requirements to install a new State II vapor recovery system a gasoline service stations. The notices of suspension now cover about 1,600 service stations in Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Bucks, Butler, Chester, Delaware, Fayette, Montgomery, Philadelphia, Washington and Westmoreland Counties. Although the DEP acknowledged the diminishing emission reduction benefits of Stage II controls in comparison to installation costs, existing systems will still be required to be maintained and operated.
